For the past 2 weeks we have been learning about Tangata Whenua, Tangata Whenua is Maori and New Zealand history here is some more information.
The Maori came from west and South Asia Hawaii and East Polynesia. Hawaii is a sacred place to the Maori people
They arrived in NZ after a long journey in Waka, large canoes.There were about 12 to 25 Waka
They brought seeds an roots for crops, kumara and potatoes , and dogs and rats got in to were waka and they came to NZ also.
They Maori ate moa, fish and crops.
They also made fish hooks out of the moa bones
Moriori people descended from Maori because they spoke the same language.
Maori people had to stay were they were because the winds were too strong to go back to other continents.
