Hi and welcome back to my blog. to day I will be talking to you about how the Polynesian Wayfinders navigating the Pacific ocean. Here you go 

How Polynesian Way-finders sailed the Pacific ocean

How do you think Polynesian way finders navigated the pacific ocean? Polynesian way finders used the sun,moon fish, debris, swells, and clouds to find the pacific ocean.

A way that Polynesians used navigation was through stars. The southern cross showed were the south but is only shown at night, so the stars were not help full at day time.

North star was a fixed spot unlike the southern cross.

Clouds reflected islands like lagoons. Big groups of clouds could  be above mountainous

islands. Clouds were very useful when you could not see the stars or the moon.

Since there were no stars at day they used the sun. The sun rises in the east and sets in

the west that is how they knew where the east and west was. They use the sun in the

morning and afternoon .

They had no map, GPS so they used the southern cross, bird and clouds to navigate the

Pacific ocean. They had to use this because it was the only thing they had.

Method 

Equipment:

• Bucket
• Blindfold
• cotton wool    

Instructions

1. Put a bind fold over your eye

2. Put some cotton in your ears

3. Put a bucket on your head 

4. Spin in a circle 3 times

• 5. get your partner to line you up in line with the pole 

6. Begin to walk in a straight line

Safety

• Stop walking when you hear the whistle
• If your partner says stop or taps you on the back you must stop
• Do not into objects (buildings ,trees ,people)

Results

• Find a satellite picture of the filed

We did not get all the letters so made the shape of the letters with our arms.

The code we had to do was Whiteout we got hide on.
